TIPPING IN ISTANBUL

Tipping customs are as we all know differs from one country to another, even from one city to another. You do not have to tip and it is not compulsory.

SERVICE CHARGES

However saying that, some business enterprises did come up with a clever way which is called service charge. No idea who did invented this compulsory ten percent service charges but it is there and can not be avoided.

If you do mind paying compulsory tipping, so called service charges, then make sure you look at the bottom of the menu where usually states the inevitable very clearly, or ask a member of staff.

Tipping is usually ten percent of the total cost in typical Turkish local restaurants, soup houses, where usually one does get a good friendly service.

Please Do not tip with foreign coins

TAXI

Taxi's (with the exception of the few) are the crows of Istanbul, laud and ugly as well as careless in any way. No one tips the taxi drivers, as it is not a common thing to do, if you feel you must, then round it to the next number, if you can pay him even less.

Hotel Member of Staffs in Istanbul are usually known with their commitments to their Hotel guests ensuring that guests are safe and comfortable in their premises. They are the few people whom will go the extra mile to make you happy.

It is a common practice to leave a nice amount of tip during or at the end of your stay. If you have a specific person in your mind that you believe he/she deserves it more, then find out about tip sharing scheme as some hotels do share the tip between all member of staff or every department keeps it for them self's.
