BUS, TRAM AND BOAT IN ISTANBULTransport in and around Istanbul is packed with frequent services, either Buses, Dolmushes, Trams or Boats. Since there are many city travel choices, it may sound straightforward. However, different languages, different cultures and the fast paste of a busy city can make it a little more frustrating than you would expect. Unless you are familiar with the transportation system of Turkey or have a friend with you who already knows how it works, you can have plenty of practice with. Istanbul is not a typical touristic town like Marmaris or Fethiye, where the pace is significantly slower and more tolerance is shown to the tourist; it is far from it. People will not be happy to wait for you patiently until you decide which bus to use or try to communicate with the bus driver, who probably does not know speaking the English language; this is why you need to know where you are going and how you will get there by which Bus or Boat, where they depart from, where they stop, etc. Several types of buses operate in Istanbul: privately run and council-owned. Council-owned buses (IETT) do not take cash, and passes must be purchased in advance, which can be bought at some bus stops, and ferry docks, those privately run buses (HALK OTOBUS) do take cash. Depending on your time and destination, Transportation choices in Istanbul are plenty; it can sometimes be easier and more convenient to use a Taxi transfer instead of getting stressed about it. Like travelling from the Airport to Sultanahmet, you need several changes, which will take you longer and not worth the hassle after a long flight. It is vital to learn the system if you are on holiday longer than a week or so, which can save a lot of money. |
