A pleasant day out to get mixed with Ancient History and nature. This excursion involves gentle walks into the second-largest gorge in Europe, where the mountain waters run wild in spring and calmer in the Summer period and into the heart of the famous Ancient Tlos City, where the current inhabitants are the ruins of what’s left of it. Lunch is lovely so is the place where we will stop for lunch.
It is known as the city where the mythological hero Bellerophon and his winged flying horse Pegasus lived.
Determined as the oldest city of the Lycian Region by archaeological excavations, Tlos dates back to before 2000 B.C.
Tlos once had the title under the Roman empire of the very brilliant metropolis of the Lycian nation.
It is one of the oldest and largest settlements of Lycia, known as ‘Tlawa’ in Lycian inscriptions and was eventually inhabited by Ottoman Turks, one of the few Lycian cities to continue its existence through the 19th century.
The magnificent appearance of the canyon is a result of thousands of years of erosion by the snowmelt of the Taurus Mountains.
4km of the gorge is walkable after April, when the waters have receded from the snowmelt.
Stunning historical views are perfect for synchronizing with the Ancient spirit world. The guide will give all relevant information upon arrival on the site.
