Transportation
Transportation is effortless in and around Fethiye, Ovacık, Hisaronu and Oludeniz. Regular, up-to-date, air-con Shuttle Buses run up and down in all directions every 10 minutes.
Those unfamiliar with the Turkish local transport system should know that you can flag down any Dolmush (shuttle bus) anywhere along the road, and if you wish to get off, you can say Stop to the driver. Shuttle Buses are marked and have a board with a list of destinations on their front and side windows.
You can pay with the correct change, which must be ideally in Turkish Currency, and depending on your destination, it is around one sterling per person. Your small Children, provided they sit on your lap, don’t have to pay. Please be aware that you are also expected to pay with a Pay Card specifically used for Dolmush Transport, called KENT CARD; you can get them from various shops, and these shops have a clear sign on their windows indicating that they sell and top-up KENT CARD. At first, it can be frustrating to obtain the Kent Card, but once you know where and how you are topping up, it will be convenient to use them when hopping on and off a Dolmush.
Hisaronu,Ovacik and Calis Beach
Hisaronu and Ovacik, set in Mount Babadag, are popular bases for visitors to the Fethiye area. Both provide ample accommodation and facilities to meet the needs of tourists, and in particular, Hisaronu comes to life at night. The famous Calis Beach is situated five km from Fethiye town centre. In addition to Dolmush, it can be accessed by regular water taxis from Fethiye harbour. Here you can enjoy a meal at a seafront restaurant whilst watching the spectacular sunset on the horizon.
Fethiye Market is a must for locals and tourists alike. On Tuesdays, traders come to sell goods ranging from handbags to hand-made backgammon sets and the freshest of local fruit and vegetables.
Fethiye Fish Market, select and buy your fish, and for a small charge, any nearby restaurant will cook it for you there and then serve it with salad and freshly-baked bread.
