It is supposed to be Heaven for retirement and investment. Who would know crook minds were planning to rip off innocent ordinary people?

It has emerged that the fugitive businessman Selim Edes, residing in the USA, illegally occupied forest land in the Dalaman district of Muğla and constructed the 659-villa İncebel Holiday Site(Eska Houses).

While the General Directorate of Forestry filed a lawsuit to cancel the titles for the villas sold by Edes under state guarantee, foreign residents and German citizens who purchased villas by paying significant amounts are also preparing to apply to the European Court of Human Rights.

The project of 659 houses initiated by ESKA Construction, owned by Selim Edes, in 1987 under “state guarantee,” was promoted through newspaper and television advertisements across Europe during the 1990s.

Foreign residents and German citizens who dreamed of a paradise-like holiday village became interested in the villas at prices up to 150,000 euros (the Deutsche mark then). However, a year later, Mr.Edes’ company went bankrupt. Furthermore, there was another shocking development. The General Directorate of Forestry filed a lawsuit to cancel the titles, claiming ownership of the land where ESKA built the villas.

While the trial is ongoing, Vakif Bank, which provided state guarantees, repossessed 259 of the unfinished villas. Due to the lawsuit, those who decided to settle in their villas completed the construction with additional expenses but couldn’t regain ownership rights. The aggrieved site residents said they would take the issue to the European Court of Human Rights.

The Ezgimen family, one of the victims, resides on the site. Levent Ezgimen, a doctor in Germany, said, “Before selling this place to us, they brought us here with private planes for visits. The Republic of Turkey guaranteed it, but problems arose with the General Directorate of Forestry. Despite paying the money, we can’t get our homes. Moreover, we are living among unfinished buildings. We expect a solution from the government.”

The construction of the International Trade Centre in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, which Mr Edes and contractor businessman Mr Kurt jointly undertook, also needed to be completed. While the Business Centre was left incomplete due to Edes’ withdrawal, the Real Estate Bank, unable to obtain the premises, received a provisional seizure order worth 233 billion TL against Mr Kurt and Mr Edes. Due to this seizure, banks put seizures on the prizes won by Mr.Kurt in two Gazi Horse Races.

Mr Edes, who attempted to collect his $120 million debt from the Real Estate Bank by giving a $3.5 million bribe to the bank’s CEO, Mr Civan, but failed to do so, had Civan shot by Mafia members.

Edes, who also received a hefty fine of over $111 million for bribery, fled to the United States after serving 47 days less than his sentence. He obtained a residence permit in the US by winning a green card lottery. The revelations following the shooting incident that injured the bank’s CEO, Mr Civan, revealed that Edes defrauded Vakif Bank with a loan of 10Milyon D.marks and Emlak Bank with 30milyon Deutsche marks.

Unfortunately, The story doesn’t end here; unpleasant events haunt this place.
